What is the best time to visit Giverny?

Giverny is a small village full of charm, known all over the world thanks to the painter Claude Monet.

This is where he created his famous garden with the water lily pond.

But when is the best time to visit Giverny and enjoy it to the fullest, especially with children?

Let me explain it simply.

🌷 Spring: the favorite season for families

The best time to visit Giverny is spring, between April and June.

Why is spring ideal?

 • Monet’s house reopens at the beginning of April

 • Flowers start blooming everywhere in Monet’s garden

 • The colors are beautiful: red, pink, yellow, purple

 • The weather is often mild, not too hot and not too cold

 • Children can walk around easily without getting too tired

In spring, the garden looks like a picture book. Children love looking for flowers, watching butterflies, and crossing the famous Japanese bridge.

👉 April and May are perfect if you want to avoid very large crowds while still enjoying the beauty of the place.

🌞 Summer: very beautiful, but more crowded

In summer, especially in July and August, Giverny is stunning… but much busier.

The advantages of summer

 • The water lilies are in bloom, just like in Monet’s paintings

 • The garden is very green and full of life

 • Children are on school holidays, so it’s easier to plan a visit

Small drawbacks

 • It can be hot, especially for younger children

 • There are many visitors, so sometimes you have to wait

 • Strollers are harder to push when it’s crowded

👉 Family tip: come early in the morning to enjoy the calm and the cool air.

🍂 Autumn: calm and soft colors

September and October are also good times to visit Giverny.

Why choose autumn?

 • There are fewer tourists

 • The colors turn orange and golden

 • The visit is calmer, ideal for families with young children

There are fewer flowers than in spring, but the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. It’s a lovely season for a quiet family

❄️ Winter: a season to avoid for the gardens

In winter, Monet’s garden is closed.

The flowers are sleeping, and the village is much quieter.

👉 If your goal is to see the gardens, this is not the right season.

Giverny is mainly visited between April and October.

Le Paradis de Lucile remains open all year round.

Even though Claude Monet’s house is closed, winter is the perfect time to enjoy many other activities or simply relax by the fireplace in the living room, read a book, play a board game, or enjoy a game of table football.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 When should you visit with children?

For families with children, here is my simple advice:

✅ April – May – June: the best choice

 • Nice weather

 • Lots of flowers

 • Not too hot

 • Perfect for walking and being amazed

✅ September: also a great option

 • Calmer

 • Pleasant for children who don’t like crowds

⚠️ July – August

 • Very beautiful, but more tiring because of the heat and

🌼 In summary

 • Best season: spring (April to June)

 • For peace and quiet: September

 • For water lilies: summer

 • To avoid: winter
